Frequently Asked Questions At Daevlmakr
What are the Daevl.Plugs?

The Daevl.Plugs are a suite of Audio Transmogrification plug-ins created by Vlad Spears in the graphical programming language Max/MSP/Jitter for use in the Pluggo environment within your host audio application.

What's "Transmogrification?"

To transmogrify is to shapeshift or metamorphose. Wikipedia has an excellent entry on Transmogrification. See also this secondary entry for Transmogrifier. The Transmogrifier Machine built by Calvin and Hobbes is actually the earliest known influence on the Daevl.Plugs.

What's Pluggo?

Pluggo 3.6 wraps Max/MSP/Jitter and fronts it as VST2, Audio Unit and RTAS plug-ins for use in audio software host applications like Ableton Live, MOTU Digital Performer and 5-12 Numerology. The Daevl.Plugs were created in Max/MSP/Jitter, so Pluggo is the secret sauce that allows them to run as plug-ins. The Daevl.Plugs won't run without it. You can download one the various flavors of free Pluggo 3.6 installers here:

Can I install the Daevl.Plugs on more than one machine?

The Daevl.Plugs are released under the QYBL-C (Question Your Beliefs License - Commercial), a very easy and generous license which protects Daevlmakr Media from frivolous and dastardly legal claims while giving honest owners of our software maximum rights in use.

You may install the Daevl.Plugs on as many machines as you personally both own and use. One laptop and one desktop? No problem. Twelve desktops, nine laptops and one embedded machine you've melded into your car audio system? Still no problem, as long as all of them belong to and are used by you.

I use both Mac and Windows boxes... do I need to purchase two licenses?

Daevl.Plugs licenses are cross-platform, so you can run on both platforms using the same Activation Phrase.

US$36! Other individual plugs sell for many times this amount. Why is the price so low?

We've kept the price very low to allow the Daevl.Plugs to be affordable for just about anyone. In the honest pursuit of fairness, we've also left out draconian copy protection measures to allow you full exercise of your rights as a purchaser for your hard-earned US$36.

Why did we do this, instead of charging US$100 or higher and limiting you to one install bound to a single machine? Because we believe honesty and fairness keeps everyone both eating and creating. If we were considering the purchase of this software, this is how we would want to be treated.

Where are all the three dimensional knobs and faux hardware interfaces?

An on-screen virtual knob has very low freedom of use. The display range and parameter granularity are bound to your screen resolution and the size of the control. Knobs limit your range of sonic options, and that's not what the Daevl.Plugs are about.

The Daevl.Plugs employ number boxes for two reasons:

1 - Complete control over parameter values. Some of the parameters in these plug-ins have incredible range. A knob would force you to use a very limited subset of that range, skipping many intermediate values as you turned it just so it could get from lowest value to highest. With number boxes you have all the sonic terrain between minimum and maximum available. In the case of floating point values, dragging to the right of the decimal will enable fine control, while dragging to the decimal's left will roll through the values swiftly.

2 - Everyone does three dimensional knobs and faux hardware. The Daevl.Plugs look different, just like they sound.
