The 5 Way Path 02007 04 23
5 base loops + massive freaking, frying, rotating, transmogrifying = Songs Of The 5 Way Path.

All songs on this page were created by intrepid and cunning transmogrifiers using only the same set of 5 base loops. Here's an mp3 demo of the loops we worked with:

To walk The 5 Way Path with us, download the 5ways_baseloops.zip sample pack (8.2mb) and create a song using only the 5 samples it contains.

Any type of processing may be used, any form of manipulation: spread the samples polyphonically across your keyboard or Monome 40h, re-record them through the walls of your house, slow them down to 9bpm and extract small bits and pieces to create a new rhythm section with percussive envelopes, use any type of effect... anything goes. There is only one rule: no other samples, synths or audio source of any kind may be used in the track.

Email finished tracks as 192kbps mp3s to . Include information on your track plus a link to your chosen web presence and we'll put it up. New tracks go at the top!

Wetterberg - thecovertoperators.org, myspace.com/wetterberg, wetterberg.dk/andreas

11 (3:27, 44.1KHz, 192kbps, 4.8MB)

"I churned up the samples and then sliced them into a bowl. Left this on the stove for 30 minutes and then sieved it. Poured this reduction into an envelope and sent it to you."

DreamPanos - myspace.com/dreampanos

The 6th Way (3:15, 44.1KHz, 192kbps, 4.5MB)

"Using only Ableton I made some serious chopping, cutting and slicing. I created new rhythm patterns with elements from the melody tracks, used granular synthesis, a lot of glitching, filtering and, of course, delays... it's amazing what you can do with only 5 loops!"

Noise, Inc. - myspace.com/noiseinc

Spectral (7:37, 44.1KHz, 192kbps, 10.5MB)

"It's all about developing new textures, grinding them, destroying, blending to create a new, fascinating organic creature which goes beyond our knowledge and experience. To humans it's like staring at the sun. Gleetchlab2, Replay Player and Flow by Karlheinz Essl, Quarks by Ixi software, Reaktor, Live - main companions in this endless trip. Sounds processed with Daevl.Plugs, Michael Norris spectral set, Minion among many others."

5 Way Gate (2:03, 44.1KHz, 192kbps, 2.9MB)

Will Kerzic (aka CizreK) taught the 5 Ways source audio how to behave in Fruity Loops, editing and effecting until it walked the line between good and evil. As an 8 x 8 Master, he then pulled it all into mlr and performed this track live on a Monome 40h, recording straight into Audacity.

Between The Channels (2:36, 44.1KHz, 192kbps, 3.58MB)

Logickal - offnominal.com, myspace.com/logickal, Daevlmakr profile

The Book Of 5 Ways (6:12, 44.1KHz, 192kbps, 8.6MB)

"And upon the pages were the most infernal of diagrams; my mind reeled as I traced the signal paths - slowly at first, but with developing fervor as comprehension dawned upon me. There was only one thing that these phantasmagoric blueprints could describe, only one possible device with this pentagonal symmetry. I hoped it was not too late..."
